About Us
Facilities & Real Estate is comprised of several portfolios that deliver meaningful outcomes across operations and capital execution and ensuring continued support of the University of Toronto’s priorities.
Facilities & Services
Our vision is to provide a world–renowned campus where students, faculty and staff thrive in safe, vibrant and sustainable environments. We maintain buildings, grounds and facilities on the St. George campus as well as support day-to-day operations by providing services such as property management, caretaking, utilities, trades and recycling to our community. We are deeply involved in the University of Toronto’s sustainability strategy and are reducing emissions on the St. George campus by upgrading our utility and building infrastructure towards becoming climate positive.
Real Estate Partnerships
We’re expanding the structural landscape of the University of Toronto, an institution intrinsically rooted within the fabric of our city and country. We partner with like-minded organizations to expand our portfolio and participate in the development of high-quality innovation space, housing, and ancillary retail across U of T. Our assets improve student, staff and faculty environments on campus, while tackling country-wide housing deficits and the climate emergency head-on. We manage all real estate acquisitions, leasing and partnership opportunities to advance the Four Corners initiative on behalf of the university.
Spaces & Experiences
Our mission is to enrich and improve life outside of the classroom in creative and unique ways. We build strong foundations that elevate the St. George campus experience. Our food initiatives, events and catering, student and family housing communities and real-estate partnership projects actively respond to our community’s needs. From locally and sustainably sourced meals to friendly residences and sustainable living environments, our overall focus is enhancing campus life and creating meaningful experiences and new possibilities to elevate the University of Toronto experience.
University Planning, Design & Construction
The lands and buildings of the University’s Tri-Campus form an essential part of the student experience. Our mandate is to integrate and coordinate across the areas of planning, project development, design and engineering, space management, and project management to deliver value and consistent levels of service for the University. This mandate is executed in co-ordination with University of Toronto Scarborough Design & Construction Management, and University of Toronto Mississauga Facilities Management & Planning. The department consists of four Directorates: University Planning, Project Development & Controls, Project Management, and Design & Engineering.
FRE Financial Strategy and Services Department (“The Hub”)
We deliver high-quality, comprehensive financial services to our portfolio departments. By standardizing processes, leveraging specialized expertise, and driving continuous improvement, we enhance operational efficiency, strengthen financial controls, and provide timely, reliable financial insights to support informed decision-making. Our scalable and adaptable service model evolves with business needs, enabling sustainable growth while delivering consistent, value-added financial support across the division.
HR FRE Office
We build and support an inclusive University community by providing assistance to our client groups in the following areas: Full cycle recruitment & onboarding, Payroll, Compensation and Job Evaluation; Talent management and leadership development, Employee Wellness & Safety Supports, Benefits & Pension administration, and Labour relations and workplace investigation guidance.
