Further to the announcement of Gloria Cuneo’s retirement on September 25, I am pleased to share that Janice Johnson has agreed to serve as Interim Executive Director, Operations, while we undertake the search for a successor.
Janice will assume responsibility for the Operations portfolio following Gloria’s retirement while continuing in her role as Executive Director, Student Housing & Residence Experience. This role spans both S&E and the Office of the Vice-Provost, Students, reflecting a broader university mandate for student housing and the residence experience. Since joining the University of Toronto in 2024, Janice has played an important leadership role in strengthening student housing and helping to shape its long-term strategy.
Janice brings more than 20 years of experience in operational and organizational leadership within Canadian universities, and her knowledge of S&E, our operations and our people will provide important continuity during this transition.
Please join me in thanking Janice for taking on this additional leadership responsibility and in supporting her as she steps into the interim role.
As Gloria prepares for her retirement, I would also like to express my sincere appreciation for her leadership and the many contributions she has made to S&E and the University. Although we have only had the opportunity to work together for a short time, I have greatly valued her insight, generosity and commitment, particularly in supporting my transition into S&E. It is clear that Gloria’s leadership has had a lasting impact, and I know I speak for all of us in wishing her all the very best in the new adventures ahead.
